The Kindergarten Bakery is Open!

This past week, we opened our Kindergarten Bakery in the dramatic play center.  We are having a lot of fun taking pretend orders for bread, muffins, cookies, cakes, and of course gingerbread and gingerbread cookies!

If you would like to send in a batch or two of play dough for our bakery, here's a recipe:

Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe:

  • 1 cup Salt
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 Tbsp Cream of Tarter
  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Cinnamon
  • 2 Tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1 Tsp Nutmeg
Mix all ingredients together until smooth.  Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until a ball forms and sticks to the spoon.  Cool, knead, and store in a plastic container or large air tight plastic zip bag.

Thanks!

During this unit, we will be reading many different versions of The Gingerbread Man story.  Stop by a local library and check out some of these titles.  Ask your child if they have a favorite story about the Gingerbread Man that we've read in class.

We will also write letters back and forth with the Gingerbread Man this month.  If we are lucky, he may just pay us a visit here at GES very soon!

We also, met up with our 5th grade buddies from Ms. Murphy's class again on Thursday.  We played a  Gingerbread House addition math facts game by rolling the dice and coloring in the sums.
