Special Message from our Speech Department

Here is a special message from Mrs. Hanson, our school's speech teacher, about her plan for this year in kindergarten:

Dear Families,

My name is Anna Hanson. I'm the Speech-Language Pathologist at GES.  Once a month, I will be in EACH Kindergarten class for 1/2 hour a day/ for an entire week, working on typical speech and language development.  I will be going into class during a Center time and create my own center focusing on the speech sounds that children have difficulty with, mainly L, S, R.  These are the sounds that are continually developing any where from age 5 to age 8!

The first week this will happen is the week of October 4-7.  I look forward to getting to know all your children!

We did it!

Well, we made it through the first FULL week of Kindergarten! 

It's been a great week of "firsts". Our first round of Special Helpers began. We had our first bus drill and our first fire drill.  We also met our 5th grade buddies from Ms. Murphy's class for the first time. And to end the week, we had our first K-time! Mr. Lockwood even came to join us to dance the Tooty- TA!

Library

Today we went to our GES Library for the first time! We met our school librarian, Mrs. Seinberg-Hughes. We learned about where special parts of the library are located. We will go to library class every Wednesday. Your child will be able to barrow books from the library starting next week.

Special Helper

     Today we begin our Special Helper Program. When your child is randomly picked to be the Special Helper they participate in lots of fun activities during the day.

     We start out by getting to know your child by spelling & counting the letters of their name. We cheer and write their name with whiteboards, too.

     At morning meeting they get to be the leader and pick out the song, conduct all our calendar, weather and other various math activities.

     Today it was Andrew's turn to be our Special Helper. He did a great job!

     I will post the photos of the Special Helpers each week until everyone has had a turn. Check back on this blog each week to see if your child was a Special Helper at school.

Our 1st Day of School

       Happy 1st Day of School!

    We had a fantastic first day of kindergarten! We were so busy playing on the playground, eating lunch, & going to Music & Art that I almost forgot to get a group photo. We had so much fun today!

Welcome to Kindergarten 2016-2017!

WELCOME to KINDERGARTEN!

I am excited to begin the new 2016-2017 school year and to get to know your children.  Kindergarten is such a special place filled with hands on learning, lots of exploration, and a ton of fun!  I love the amount of progress that children make from September to June!

Please continue to check out this blog from time to time throughout the year.  I will be adding photos and exciting happenings from our busy kindergarten days each month.  Please read the through the tabs on the top of the blog for any updates about our classroom.  I hope your child enjoys kindergarten as much as I do!

I look forward to meeting parents & talking about our curriculum at our Kindergarten Open House on Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00 pm.

The last few weeks I've been busy getting our classroom ready for the 2016-2017 school year.  I'm sad to say goodbye to summer, but I am happy to begin our school year together!

Important Dates:

- Gradual Entry 1 hour session Visit:  September 7th

- 1st FULL day of school for Kindergarten: September 8th

- PTA Ice Cream Social: September 10th at 6:00 pm

- Open House/ Meet the Teacher Night: September 27th at 6:00 pm

- School Picture Day: September 29th
